Mr. T: “Hey G, I hear you’re quite the environmental activist. Tell me, what’s this I hear about climate change is real? I’ve always thought it was a hoax.”

Ms. G: “Mr. T, I understand where you’re coming from, but I assure you that climate change is not a hoax. It is a real and pressing issue that is already affecting our planet and the people living on it.”

Mr. T: “I see. And what evidence do you have to support your claims?”

Ms. G: “The scientific evidence is overwhelming, Mr. T. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, made up of scientists from around the world, has concluded that it is extremely likely that human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, are the main cause of global warming since the mid-20th century.”

Mr. T: “But what about the cold weather we’ve been having in some parts of the country? How does that fit with global warming?”

Ms. G: “Climate change is not the same as weather, Mr. T. While the Earth’s temperature is rising overall, there can still be cold snaps and cold weather in certain regions. It’s important to understand that climate change refers to long-term patterns and trends, not short-term weather events.”

Mr. T: “I see. And what can we do to address this problem?”

Ms. G: “There are many things we can do, Mr. T. One of the most important things is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning to clean energy sources like wind and solar power and implementing policies to promote energy efficiency and conservation. We can also protect and restore natural habitats like forests and wetlands, which play a crucial role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. And, we can invest in research and development of new technologies to address climate change.”

Mr. T: “Well, G, you’ve certainly given me a lot to think about. I’ll be sure to consider your points as I make decisions about environmental policy.”

Ms. G: “I appreciate that Mr. T. And I hope you will take action to address this issue before it’s too late.”
